Irish revival of Limerick-Foynes Line moves forward

Iarnród Éireann (Irish Railways) has embarked on an ambitious project to reactivate the railway connecting the River Shannon port of Limerick with the open-sea port at Foynes, around forty kilometres downstream in the river estuary. This initiative, aligned with the Irish Government’s drive towards sustainable transportation, seeks to redress the balance away from road transport for freight. The rail link is slated to resume operations in early 2024.
