HS2 couples with rail freight for the long haul
The UK’s ambitious HS2 high-speed rail project has for a long time been emphasising its credentials as a capacity enhancement for the British railway network. Now, HS2 Limited, the company formed by the government to oversee its construction, has published an information paper outlining how HS2 will interface with rail freight operations throughout Great Britain. The move is set to pave the way for what they hope will be a seamless integration between the high-speed rail network and the country’s freight transport industry. There’s also the not-very-small matter of connecting to the West Coast Main Line – already Europe’s busiest mixed-traffic rail route.
