Hupac launches new rail freight service between Italy and Poland

Starting from mid-October, Hupac will offer a new intermodal service connecting Pordenone, in north-eastern Italy, and Gliwice, in southern Poland. The Gliwice-Pordenone service will start on 10 October, while departures from Italy to Poland will start on 12 October.

The stop in Poland will be the PKP Cargo Connect Terminal Kontenerowy Gliwice, while in Pordenone the train will stop at the Hupac terminal. The service is planned to offer three weekly roundtrips. The Gliwice-Pordenone service will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays on both directions.

Gliwice-Pordenone: faster transit times, suitable for dangerous goods

The train will go through Austria and the Czech Republic. The service is also suitable for the transport of dangerous goods, but waste is not allowed. From Poland to Italy, total transit time will be 16 hours, with closing time in Gliwice at 5 pm and pickup in Italy that starts at 9 am.

On the opposite direction, transit time is a little over 20 hours, with closing time in Pordenone at 3:30 pm and pickup in Poland starting at 12 pm. As a spokesperson from Hupac pointed out, this service is being launched to meet the increasing demand of rail freight services from Gliwice.

Over the past few weeks, Hupac has been all over the place. Since the end of August, the Swiss company has in fact increased weekly roundtrips for various services throughout Europe, launched new ones, and inaugurated a brand new terminal in Poland.
