Fire trucks from Italy headed to Ukraine by rail
A Mercitalia train bound for Veľká Ida, Slovakia, left Cervignano del Friuli in Italy on Monday to transport 45 fire trucks donated by the Italian Fire Brigade to their Ukrainian colleagues. It is the second train carrying aid from Italy to Ukraine.
When the train with fire trucks arrives in Slovakia on Tuesday evening, the vehicles will be handed over to local authorities. Together with a team of the local fire brigade, they will be unloaded and escorted in a convoy to Ukraine. Before returning home, instructors of the Italian Fire Brigade will meet their Ukrainian colleagues to explain the operation of the trucks.
The operation is coordinated by the Italian Civil Protection Department, as part of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, in agreement with the Fire Brigade, Public Rescue and Civil Defense Department.
On April 8, a Mercitalia train, the freight branch of state operator FS Italiane, left Prato for Ukraine. This train was filled with basic necessities such as medicines, food, clothing, children’s products and personal hygiene items. The trip was made possible by partners Rail cargo Austria, CD Cargo Czech Republic and PKP in Poland.
