With the climate goals of the EU, combined transport is in the spotlight. It is the low-hanging fruit, the International Union for Road-Rail Combined Transport (UIRR) has repeatedly said, the solution to accomplish carbon-neutral transport. In today’s RailFreight Live, three experts will reveal how they are contributing to this common goal.

Markus Bangen took the position of Duisport’s new chief this summer, and will join the show this afternoon to share his vision. He will be followed by Daniel Lebreton from VIIA, which has been focused on rail-road traffic since 2003. VIIA has lust launched the new service between le Boulou and Gennevilliers, just an example of the many intermodal lines it operates.

Intermodal Europe Summit

The occasion of this week’s combined transport theme is the Intermodal Europe Summit, taking place on Tuesday 30 November. This event is organised by the UIRR and will take place online. Energy efficiency and decarbonisation are the two main topics to be discussed.

Akos Ersek joins the show this afternoon to elaborate on the summit, and tell us what we can expect. The UIRR is one of the main influencers of the Combined Transport policy in the EU, and can explain what exactly is needed to encourage this transport combination. Registration for the Intermodal Europe Summit is free of charge and can be done here.
