In RailFreight Live today: Rotterdam, Switzerland and P400 trailers

With the opening of the Ceneri Base tunnel in September 2020, the Rotterdam-Italy corridor is open for P400 trailers as well. This is a big step forward for the European rail freight industry. Intermodal operator Hupac shares its experience so far in RailFreight Live today.

Although the corridor between Rotterdam and Genoa is currently facing restrictions due to winter weather in the Netherlands, there was plenty of good news to share this winter. One after the other service was opened up for P400 trailers. Previously, these containers could not be transported along the Ceneri Pass.In today’s show, Alessandro Valenti from Hupac will explain what this development means for the intermodal industry.

In the meantime, the disruptions in the port of Rotterdam continue. On the sixth day after a snowstorm hit the Netherlands, freight trains are still only seeing very little movement. On Tuesday afternoon, we visited the port to see with our own eyes what work is being done to overcome the problems. We spoke to several railway companies about their problems. The report is broadcasted in today’s show.
