EU consultation on freight noise rule changes

The European Union Agency for Railway (ERA) is running a consultation on draft changes to technical rules governing noise from rail freight wagons.

It is proposing a revision of the technical specifications for interoperability (TSIs) so it can be applied to existing freight rolling stock. ERA says these ‘limited changes’ to the TSIs will nevertheless impact freight traffic and the social environment. They include amendments relating to rolling stock failures, extreme weather conditions, infrastructure failures and scheduled maintenance of infrastructure and wagons.

Any stakeholders with an interest can view the draft changes document via the website. Comments should be emailed to 006REC1072@era.europa.eu
