Le Shuttle Freight set a new daily record on June 8, when it transported 3,822 trucks in 24 hours between Calais and Folkestone via its Channel Tunnel rail service. This beat the previous record of 3,633 trucks set on December 3, 2015.

Groupe Eurotunnel’s rail freight arm also transported 141,646 trucks by rail through the tunnel last month, the most ever for May, up three per cent on last year’s figure of 137,700. A knock-on effect caused by exceptional weather conditions in Spain has seen truck traffic has fall slightly, by one per cent, since the start of the year. Le Shuttle Freight recorded 681,763 truck shuttle movements between January and May (inclusive) this year, down from 687,670 last year.
