The export of dry infant formula and Russian-made food to Vietnam by rail has quadrupled over the past year. This was said by Russian Railways. The baby food industry became increasingly interested in the rail freight connection to Asia early 2019. With the reduction of flights later on, the train became an interesting alternative for the the export of Russian goods, the state-owned railway company clarified.

Baby food is transported by rail from Vorsino station in Kaluga oblast through Zabaikalsk and China to Hanoi (Yên Viên station), from where it is transported by truck to shops in the capital of Vietnam and around the country. The average transportation time from Vorsino to Yên Viên is 24 days.

Russian-Vietnamese partnership

JSC RZD Logistics (subsidiary of Russian Railways) is responsible for organising the entire supply chain, FELB (subsidiary of JSC RZD Logistics) forwards freight across China, and the quality of logistics in Vietnam is ensured by Ratraco (logistics company that is 35 per cent owned by Vietnam Railways).

The Russia-Vietnam-Russia international transportation corridor was launched in December 2017 in accordance with the bilateral cooperation agreement signed between JSC Russian Railways and Vietnam Railways.
