ÖBB finalised the delivery of 90 4-axle self-unloading wagons manufactured by Slovakian ŽOS Trnava. The new wagons will be used for transporting bulk goods during track maintenance and repairs.

“When emptying the wagon, gravity is used – four discharge openings with rotating slides allow finely controlled emptying on both sides of the wagon, between the rails and next to them”, the Slovakian company highlighted. This means that no external power source is required.

The contract was awarded to ŽOS Trnava in April 2021 for a total of 13.9 million euros. The locomotive manufacturer specialises in the field of self-dump wagons. For this project, ŽOS Trnava designed two functional prototypes of the freight wagon to conduct tests for Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI). Delivery was initially planned for 2023.
